Gardens of the Val d'Oise

Historical circumstances, near Paris, abundance of water, diversity of natural environments and landscapes qualities favored over the centuries the establishment of parks and gardens in the territories that constitute the present department of Val d'Oise.

Different styles are everywhere, squares of medieval inspiration of the Abbey of Royaumont, with embroidery on the field of water Villarceaux or gardens of the Sun and Moon Castle Ambleville, all inspired by the Renaissance ; flowerbeds regular park of the castle of Auvers-sur-Oise-fruit or vegetable garden of the castle of La Roche-Guyon to massive release of the Garden Country Grisy-les-Plâtres.

Gardens of the illustrious dead, as Jean-Jacques Rousseau in Montmorency or Doctor Gachet in Auvers-sur-Oise, Parks comtemporary urban setting, gardens showroom professionals vegetable so a myriad of small gardens private exceptionally open to visitors complete an offer particularly extensive. The Ministry of Culture and Communication does not make a mistake which has awarded five gardens of the department's prestigious label "Jardins Remarquables".

The Label “Jardins Remarquables”

The label "Jardins Remarquables” reflects the quality of some gardens and efforts for their presentation and public reception. It may be granted to the gardens or not protected under the Historic Monuments.
Established in 2004, this label state is granted for a period of five years in parks and gardens open to the public that are of great interest in terms of history, aesthetics, or botany. This interest must be coupled with an exemplary maintenance, environmentally friendly, as well as an attentive visitor.

The 2012 program

Label Villes et Villages Fleuris in the Val d'Oise


The Val d'Oise has 26 municipalities labeled (link to PDF list of town labeled). About 50 municipalities participating in the contest every year to obtain prices that highlight the actions of the gardeners of Commons. Prices are: price of the frame plant, flowering prices, prices of the animation, the price of natural resource conservation. Other prizes are available as the price of the tree that welcomes local politics in the management of heritage trees. Prizes are also awarded to individuals, the price gardener, vegetable prices. Registrations are only open to local commune who are organizing a competition and presents his or her winners.


Festival The label is obtained by involving local Contest county towns and villages in bloom houses. Ets Contest held annually and aims the development of flowering and beautification of Commons in respect of biodiveristé and sustainable development.
The National Council of Cities and Villages in Bloom (CNVVF) is responsible for organizing the competition and the award of the fourth flower. It delegates at the regional level which is responsible for the labeling of Cities and Villages in Bloom 1st to 3rd flower.
